It may be more challenging to build compared with an ordinary chair because of some moving parts but the reward makes the whole thing worthwhile. MATERIALS NEEDED IN CONSTRUCTING A CHAISE LOUNGE Some of the materials that you will need in order to accomplish this project are the stock of your choice (two by four, one by three or one by 2), a dowel, nails, carpentry glue and screws. The tools that you will need for this endeavor are a drill set, three-four-five square, hammer, saw, pen and paper, measuring tape and a router. STEPS IN CONSTRUCTING YOUR LOUNGE There are numerous examples of loungers. If you want to construct a basic lounge, start by picking the type of wood that you want. Teak is a good choice if your location is exposed to the elements constantly. Lounges have a considerable amount of pieces that are attached to them. Carefully cutting each part, sanding them individually and then painting them with varnish before attaching them together will make the whole thing simpler. Start by carefully cutting the pieces for your lounge. The frame of your lounge's base will need a pair of two by four wooden boards cut six inches long. The back part will need a pair of two by four wooden boards cut four inches long. The cross wooden pieces that you lean back and sit on need a one by two stock. These pieces should be cut two to six inches long but can be made extended if necessary. Divide the dowel in the same length and add four inches for the total width of the two by four boards. Repeat the same thing for the four-one by three stock that will be installed for the seat and back. The width parts needed to place above the length parts. For the back rest of the lounge, carefully cut a pair of one by three pieces. These parts should be patterned with the hypotenuse of a forty-five degree triangle, beginning from the location of the backrest. Divide a pair of one by two boards to four inches behind the connection of the back rest to the frame of the seat. Place the router into the boards in intervals to fulfill your preferences. The legs of the lounge can be made of any type of material. Four-two by four board carefully cut to your desired length. Divide the pair of lounge rests to your desired style. The elbow part of the arm rest should be thinned down by two inches. Divide a pair of supports vertically to your planned height. Place the holes for the screws for connection. Sanding all of the parts will make varnish adhere well to the wood and solve the problem of unwanted splinters. To assemble your lounge, start with the two frame parts. Attach the pieces to the two by four side parts with the help of screws. You can also use screws to attach the legs to the frame. Attach the seat and slats for the backrest to lounge frame to permit free movement. Assemble the frames for the seat and back support and place a one inch hole at the intersection of the back and seat. You can use nails to secure the support pieces of the back rest to the frame of the seat. Connect the supports of the back rest that possess dowels. Wooden loungers can be very attractive in a garden setting, as they come in many different types of wood. They are also quite easy to keep clean; mostly only warm soapy water is all that is needed. With wooden loungers you will also need to purchase cushions to make them comfortable, they tend to be on the heavy side as well, so moving them for storage may not be so easy, they need attention yearly to keep them looking good, this means either an oil application or the need for varnish. A very good alternative to either of those products is the wicker sun lounger; it combines the good looks of wood and the practicality of plastic loungers. Synthetic woven wicker furniture that is of a high quality using an aluminum frame, and covered with the man- made weave. This makes it ideal for moving should you want to store or, simply move it around in the garden to follow the sun. Wicker loungers give the appearance of furniture from days gone by, rattan and cane, but with the durability of modern materials. A wicker sun lounge can be left outside all year round, being able to withstand extreme temperatures, chlorine from swimming pools and the UV effects from the sun. Because of the materials used, maintenance is minimal, soapy warm water will keep them looking good for years. Should you feel the need to add cushions make sure you buy water resistant, and that you take them in during wet weather conditions, left out too long they can rot. With its good looks and comfort wicker sun lounge furniture can easily be adapted for use indoors as well, maybe the conservatory or sun-room, when there may be too much wind outside to be comfortable.
